About Charles

Charles works with young adults, adults, couples, and families who may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or the people around them. Anxiety, depression, anger, loneliness, trauma, and relationship struggles can sometimes lead to ways of coping that create even more problems. Sometimes these problems show up as substance use, gambling, compulsive sexual behavior, excessive spending, or other patterns that have become difficult to change.

With more than 20 years of experience as a therapist, Charles has worked extensively with addiction and recovery, co-occurring disorders, trauma, mood and personality disorders, relationship concerns, and LGBTQ+ issues. He understands that change is not always as simple as knowing what you “should” do differently. Therapy can be a place to understand what is driving those patterns, build healthier ways of coping, and start making changes that feel realistic and sustainable.

His style is warm, direct, and solution-focused. He uses CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, and trauma-focused approaches and is also trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy. He works with clients to address what is happening now while also understanding the experiences that may have contributed to where they are today.

As a gay man with more than 30 years in recovery, Charles also brings lived experience, openness, and an understanding of how difficult change and recovery can be. You do not need to come into therapy with a plan. Sometimes knowing that you want something to be different is enough of a place to start.
