A conversation focused on you

Individual therapy gives you time to explore your experiences, relationships, emotions, and goals with a clinician. You do not need a polished explanation of what is wrong before you begin.

You might want to discuss stress, anxiety, low mood, grief, relationship concerns, or a change in your life. Some people have a specific issue in mind, while others want help understanding a pattern that keeps showing up.

Finding an appropriate clinician

Different members of the Pathways team work with different ages, concerns, and approaches. Their biographies describe areas such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, and family experiences.

The team includes licensed clinicians and associate therapists who work under licensed supervision. Read the clinician biographies and ask the practice to confirm credentials, fit, and current availability for the care you are seeking.

What to ask before your first appointment

Use the initial inquiry to explain your general goals and ask practical questions. You may want to know who you would meet, how appointments are arranged, what information is needed before you start, and what costs to expect.

You can also ask how the clinician approaches goal-setting and how you will discuss whether therapy is meeting your needs. These conversations can help you make an informed decision without requiring you to share your whole history in a web form.

Insurance and scheduling

Ask about current insurance participation for the clinician and service you are considering. Benefits, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs should be clarified before an appointment rather than assumed from a plan name alone.

Our insurance and payment guide outlines questions to bring to the practice and your insurer. If you are seeking care for a young person, our child and teen therapy page describes additional questions about age and caregiver involvement.

Begin with a brief inquiry

Tell us that you are interested in individual therapy, the age group involved, and any scheduling preferences. Keep your message general and ask how to share sensitive information through the appropriate intake process.
